Palmyra

Yes, we're still on the road at this point! The kids are still being troopers and really having a fun time. We stopped next at Palmyra, New York. Our first night in Palmyra, there was a lightning storm and took out power in half of the hotel. We had lights, but no air conditioning! We made it, but it was sure hot.
Palmyra is a beautiful place. It was here that the ancient Church of Jesus Christ was brought back to the earth. We visited the Sacred Grove. In the early 1800's it was a forest of trees at the back of the Smith property. Joseph went there to be alone and pray. Today it's a place reverence and respect. We walked throughout along the worn paths. I tried to imagine how Joseph must have been feeling as he walked through those trees. The grove is quiet and as David and I whispered to the kids about the experience of Joseph Smith, the place became hallowed to me. We were teaching our children in the very place where it happened. It was beautiful and wonderful.
We also climbed to the top of the Hill Cumorah. Also a very amazing place. Another interesting place to visit there was the Grandin store. This is the original building where the very first Book of Mormon was published. I bet the publisher, Grandin, had no idea that the book he was printing and binding would fill the earth. Again, another witness of the greatness of this work.
