Sailor of the Year
Each year in the Navy, a Sailor is chosen by his or her commanders to be Sailor of the Year. David would have to explain all that the "prizes" include, but for me, I can say I am the proud wife of the Navy Band Northeast Sailor of the Year, 2008. So, what I know is that he gets his picture on the website, he went up before the big whigs at the command for the Northeast Naval Region to be considered for Sailor of the Year for the region (which he hasn't heard about yet), he gets a 4-day liberty pass, and some extra points towards his next promotion exam.
What does this mean to me? Nothing...before you say, geesh, nice wife, I should explain. David is a man who does his job 200% every day. He performs his instrument, takes care of his responsibilities, and even mentors along the way, and then he comes home and becomes the greatest husband and father to walk the planet.
For him to receive this award from the Navy is nice, don't get me wrong. He does more than his share of work at work, and he's been placed in a position usually reserved for those one or two rankings above him, and he's been doing it for almost 2 years with glowing reviews. So the recognition is a good thing, but for me, it's only a small confirmation of what this man is to me every day and moment of our lives together.
On this eve of a lover's holiday, I just wanted to pen my feelings for my sailor of the year, husband of the best 10 years of my life, and my very best friend forever. (go on ahead with the awe's...)
