My Golden Christmas Tree

For those of you who know me, and think I'm crazy..I am. Somewhere along the way, I started to decorate my Christmas tree different every year. This year is the 11th year I have decorated my tree with something different. I have decided that this is the last year I'm going to do this, mainly because hauling all the Christmas decorations is starting to add up. So, next year will be a plain-jane-whatever-we-have-tree.

Last New Year's Eve, David and I went to a 1920's speakeasy show and party at the Astor's Beechwood Mansion in Newport, RI. The mansion was still beautifully decorated with Christmas trees. I loved the style of the early 1900's. I love the vintage look of those trees and so I set out to "copy" as best I could. After Christmas is the best time to plan for the following year's tree because everything is on sale. I found "amber" colored lights, and some really fun ribbon and that started me on my search.

So, this tree is gold, silver, copper, and light blue. It's elegant vintage, I think. I am happy with it, it's really pretty and maybe I'll have to keep these decorations and do this tree again in another 5 or so years! :)

Here's a list of the former tree's:
1999: white lights, red/green plaid bows
2000: colored lights, red/green ribbon all over
2001: white lights, handmade angel ornaments
2002: colored lights, colored glass bulbs
2003: We didn't have a tree because we were moving to Japan
2004: blue lights, all sizes and shapes of glittery snowflakes
2005: colored lights, colored bulbs, again
2006: colored lights, drum ornaments and mirrored disco balls
2007: green lights, Abby and I painted and decorated about 100 christmas tree ornaments (all the ornaments were in the shape of trees).
2008: white lights, purple ribbon and various purple ornaments
2009: amber lights, gold, copper, silver, blue, elegant vintage
