His First Black Eye

Well, Jackson is going to be the one, I think. The one that gets me to the emergency room more times than I care to wonder about. He's is already such a "boy". I was worried about having boys. I grew up with all girls. When I had Jacob I thought I would be in for it. Luckily, we've only been in the ER with him twice. Once, when he was about 4, (see picture), he was standing on a stool to watch me make breakfast and he didn't realize that the griddle was hot. He lost his balance and grabbed for something to hold him. He put his hand, and forearm almost to his elbow, onto the top of the hot griddle. He had some nasty blisters with 2nd degree burns. The Dr. worried a bit because of the burns to the hands, but he was such a sport with dressing the burns with medicine twice a day. Now, not one scar. I can't even remember which arm it was. The second time was when he and his friend from NM, Stevin, were playing with these pvc pipes like they were trumpets. They were having a parade and walking around playing their trumpets and they ran into each other. The end of the pipe had a sharp little piece sticking out and it went right into Jacob's top lip. There was tons of blood and a little tiny cut. At the ER, they put face-superglue on it. He has a teeny tiny scar on his top lip now. So, my little J-man Jackson is a climber. Well, how dare I have a Japanese step-tonsu. That's right STEPS all the way up both sides of this furniture to the top where there is the TV. He climbs those every day least 300 times, and always looks to see where I am and how long it takes me to get him down. He climbs on the furniture, the beds, the diswasher door, and the kitchen chairs. He also thinks he's got suction cups for feet. Especially in the bath. Last night he gave us an opportunity to document in full color, the beginnings of his "boyhood". He took a dive into the side of the tub. His first black eye, I'm so proud! Today, it's all kinds of shades of purple. He's got a finger to match...two days ago, he got his finger caught in a drawer and pulled it out too quickly. It's starting into the brown bruise phase now! So, here I go. I'm sure I will need to prepare special treats for the people in the ER. Abby? She's a tough little cookie! No heart stopping moments with her...yet!

Poor guy! Seeing those pictures reminded me of some "mis-haps" that happened when I was young. Don't know if I ever got a black eye, but I had my share of "owies" or I gave "owies". I don't know if David or Jeremy have told you about their finger mishap when they were 2 or 3 and I was 4. Let's just say if Mom didn't think quick and take them to the ememgency room, they both would of had some smaller fingers. Hey, I was only 3, you gotta take that into consideration. Anyway, sorry for this lovely trip down memory lane, but I did have to digress.

I do have to say, that every time I see Jeremy, he holds up his pinky finger and says that it's hindered his bass playing. Maybe he doesn't say that now, but when we were in college, he used to hang that over my head. I just roll my eyes and say..."Whatever" and it was my 3 or 4 year old way of saying.."I LOVE YOU" Hee!! Hee!!

Poor little guy! Is Jacob proud of his little brother's battle wound?!! I got a black eye when I was about 6, and I was so proud of it. It got me lots of attention, too!
