The Dresser

We had a man in our ward who retired and decided to move. He had lived in this house in Newport for about 500 years. He was getting rid of a bunch of stuff and we needed a dresser, so we got it from him. I figured it was free and I always wanted to try to re-do a piece, so why not a free one? My first attempt wasn't the greatest and David kept asking me over and over again if I was sure I wanted to paint this old, old dresser. Well, I did want to paint it but mainly because it had that VERY old dresser smell. I thought the paint would help. Well, the paint looks okay but the dresser still has that smell. I have cleaned it and cleaned it and sprayed it and sprayed it, and it still smells. I even left it in the garage for 4 months. Now it's in the boys' room and the drawers aren't full of clothes, but full of cedar chips. I'm determined to lower the smell before I put the boys' clothes in it. Anyway, here's the before and after pictures!

That is amazing! It looks beautiful. Hope that smell problem gets figured out, but it is just amazing.

You really did a great job here, I'm very impressed. I wish I could land a free dresser like that! Maybe I need to look around at some second-hand furniture places here.

I found this info on a website, I hope it helps:

White Vinegar & Water: spray/wipe/air dry

Lemon Oil: wipe down/pat dry

Pure Vanilla w/ water: spray/wipe/ pat dry

Baking soda: sprinkle/vacuum/air dry

A lot of salt and sunlight

Crumpled Newspapers, absorb the smell, replace daily

Dried Lavender

Hope this helps!
